Three Contract Red Flags to Watch for Before You Sign With a Telecom Provider

Telecom contracts are written by the provider, for the provider. That doesn't mean they're all bad, but it does mean you need to read them carefully before signing. Three things worth checking every time:

  1. No defined SLA. If uptime, response time, and remedies for outages aren't spelled out in writing, you have no real recourse when something goes wrong.
  2. Vague "fair usage" language. Contracts that mention fair use policies without defining actual limits leave you exposed to surprise restrictions or charges later.
  3. One sided assignment rights. Some contracts let the provider transfer or sell your agreement to another company without your consent, while locking you into terms you never negotiated with that new company.

None of these are deal breakers on their own, but they're leverage points. A provider confident in their service won't mind clarifying them before you sign.
